The shutters/shade business is a weird niche. I have people ask me all the time, "how did you get in this business?" Here’s the quick backstory: My dad used to be a maintenance man for McRae’s Department Store back in the day. When they started selling draperies, they needed an installer and my dad volunteered. He learned the tricks of the trade, and eventually branched off on his own. After coming home from Afghanistan in 2009, I had a degree and no clue what I wanted to do with my life. My dad asked if I could come work with him for a bit while I figured things out. After working with my dad for about six months, we got so busy we couldn’t keep up, and he asked if I considered doing this by myself. I really hadn’t, because I enjoyed working with my dad, but it made sense. Fast forward to now and I realize I’ve been in the business for 13+ years. I’m blessed to no longer be working by myself.
